Beauty Edit: My Skincare Routine
I’ve always been a believer of less is more, probably due to the fact that I am quite lazy when it comes to a skincare routine. I’m the girl that in my late teens and twenties would occasionally (most often) sleep with my make up on. I’m by no means a beauty expert and while I do believe good skin is down to genetics, I have learnt that what you use (most importantly what you eat – but that’s another post all together which you can read here ) plays quite a significant role on your skin. Mid thirties and I am starting to slowly see changes and all of a sudden I am paying attention to what my skin needs.
In the last couple of months I have been really good with my skincare routine and I can say I have seen some vast improvements. I have extremely dry and sensitive skin so I am always careful what I use. While some products may work for others, it isn’t always guaranteed they will work for me, as sometimes I may find them a little harsh and dry for my skin. Here I am sharing some of my favourite products that have really helped get my skin back on track.
Cleansing
One product that I like using to take my make up off (to the shock horror of many beauty experts) is Johnson’s baby lotion cream. I just love it how it feels on my skin and it’s the one product that doesn’t actually dry it out. Another one that I love to use is Cleanse & Polish from Liz Earle, this leaves my skin super soft and smells divine. An eye-make up remover that I can totally vouch for is Botanics soothing eyes makeup remover. I have been using it for years and it’s great for sensitive eyes and for stubborn waterproof mascara.
Rituals
After cleansing my skin I like to rub about 4-6 drops of H.A Intensifier from skinCeuticals over my face and neck. This corrective serum has a high concentration of pure Hyaluronic acid which helps deliver surface hydration. I absolutely love it, my skin feels more plump and dare I say it the lines on my forehead actually look less visible. My skin basically just feels more hydrated. It’s pricey but totally worth it. Afterwards I like to use Johannis cream for sensitive skin by Sans Soucis. I discovered this thanks to my mum who has been using it for years. I can’t recommend it enough, especially if you like me have dry skin. With natural herb extracts it has a rich texture which leaves my skin fully conditioned. It is so affordable as well which is great! Finally for my eyes I am obsessed with Advanced Night Repair by Estée Lauder. I have tried so many eye creams in the last few years and I have never been totally satisfied until I started using this one around February. I cannot live without it now.
SPF
Lets talk SPF! I will never leave the house without a high SPF. I recently discovered two creams which I love and always alternate between the two. First up is Weightless Protection Broad Spectrum SPF 45 by PCA Skin. This is recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation and it’s amazing. Finally a sun cream that isn’t too greasy, easily absorbed and leaves the skin looking beautifully hydrated. It is also perfume free which I do love as I find it less irritating to my skin. Next up is Tom Ford’s Face Protect SPF 50. Again this is amazing on my skin. I basically use it as a primer and it gives my skin an instant glow. I’m quite obsessed with it really. I am then ready to apply my make up on which I like to do straight away. During the day I like to spritz some Beauty Elixir from Caudalíe for a quick touch up and to keep my skin hydrated.
Masks
When my skin needs a little extra SOS especially after travelling, I turn to a rescue mask. Ever Calm from REN is a must have for anyone with super sensitive skin. I really love this brand, I’ve always found their products so good and at such decent prices which sometimes can be quite a rarity. Anyway, it’s great, doesn’t tighten the skin and it really helps bringing it back to life. Another mask which I recently discovered is Ultra Nourishing Saviour Mask by Gazelli. Formulated with Gazelli’s white oil, it is a an effective treatment which really plumps and tones the skin. It helps to retain moisture and protects against free radicals thus deeply nourishing the skin. My skin the next morning (I like to leave it overnight) had a nice glow. Another one which is probably at the top of the list is the Advanced Night Repair powerful mask from Estée Lauder. I only use this when my skin is in serious need and it is AMAZING! Your skin is basically drowned in hyaluronic acid and I can honestly say that the next morning I felt like I walked out of a facial as my skin was that good!
So there you have my current favourites which I’m absolutely loving. However what works for me may not necessarily work for you. I suggest to always ask for samples when wanting to try new products. There is no point in splashing out on a product that may not be right for you. I do though, truly believe that investing in your skin is probably the best thing one should do as I personally want to avoid going down the botox and fillers route (never say never).
I would love to know what skincare products you cannot live without. I always love trying new things and am slowly becoming a beauty junkie, who would have thought. Better late than never!

12th May 2017 at 1:39 pmI have just started to take proper care of my skin too. Just a few tweaks and my skin is already looking brighter. Have you tried Boots Organics polishing balm. It smells wonderful and is cheaper alternative to Liz Earl’s?

12th May 2017 at 3:31 pmOooh excellent list – I like trying out new skincare products as well! I’ve always taken good care of my skin but it’s really changed since I hit 40 a few years ago so I’ve had to switch up what I use! Looking for a good deep mask so will have to try that Estee Lauder one you recommended 🙂 xx
