Dinner At Morden & Lea
A couple of weeks ago it was my husband’s birthday, so being the nice wife that I am I decided to treat him to a lovely dinner. I booked a table at Morden & Lea via Bookatable as they had an amazing deal for a three course meal plus a glass of prosecco for only £25 each. After reading all of the raving reviews, it was just too tempting to resist!
Situated in the heart of Soho, Morden & Lea is renowned Chef and Restaurateur Mark Sargeant’s latest project. Interestingly it is named after cartographers Morden and Lea, who were the first to map Soho in the 17th century.
Ok, so lets talk about what really matters, food! The menu consists of British and European classics, all sounding utterly delicious hence making the decisions all that more difficult. As a starter I opted for the seared cornish mackerel served with pickled cucumber, prawns & sesame…
While my husband ordered the steak tartare accompanied with rocket, parmesan & polenta chips…
What can I say, except that it was damn good! We managed to devour it in 5 minutes, where the conversation had drastically stopped as we were too busy fulfilling our taste buds!
Next up, we both decided on the corn-fed chicken which comes with glazed potatoes, field mushrooms & tender stem broccoli…
It certainly hit the spot! While at first the portions may seem small, trust me it’s all an illusion. These dishes are so fulfilling that you are left completely and utterly stuffed by the end of your meal!
Finally dessert came which lets be honest, no matter how full you are it’s the best part of the evening! Again we both opted for the same and went for malt custard with honeycomb & hazelnut parfait. Just the sound of that makes me go all giddy with excitement! The result?! It certainly didn’t disappoint, a total melt in the mouth orgasmic moment – I kid you not!
I was totally and pleasantly surprised by the food quality at Morden & Lea. With so many positive reviews we were hoping it to be a real winner and it certainly was! It’s not really that surprising, considering head chef is Daniel Mertl, where previous experience includes Chez Bruce, The Savoy and La Gavroche.
Not only was the food A-mazing but the service was impeccable from beginning to end.
The restaurant is split across two floors, and being the interiors geek that I am, I couldn’t help but appreciate the interior design. The decor has an eclectic sophisticated industrial vibe going on and I’m slightly obsessed with the different light fixtures! After all, good lighting is always essential in creating the perfect mood and it’s something I’m always drawn to.
So if you’re looking for great food, fantastic service and wonderful ambiance, then definitely pay a visit to Morden & Lea, I highly recommend it! Make sure to take advantage of the amazing offer that Bookatable have available now.
