Fabulous 1950’s Wallpapers

8th March 2011
There are some fantastic 1950’s inspired wallpapers at the moment, which I am just loving this whole revival trend. I thought I would put together some favourites of mine….
Mini Moderns have some fantastic designs. I particularly love this new nautical theme wallpaper called ‘Whitby’. Inspired by the 1950’5 linocuts, this design really captures the essence of being at sea. The colourways shown below are gorgeous…

Another design that I adore from Mini Moderns is the ‘Festival’ range. Celebrating the 1951 Festival of Britain, this is perfect for the coming up of the 60th anniversary in May. This design features highlights of the 1951 exhibition. A cute wallpaper with the iconic Skylon, the Dome of Discovery and the Royal Festival Hall. I personally think it is adorable.

I also love Sanderson’s 1950’s prints. A particular favourite of mine is the ‘Mobiles’ design by Marian Mahler which has made a comeback in four colourways in their wallapers and fabric designs. Such a fun and playful design.

Some other Sanderson favourites of mine are the ‘Portobello’ and the ‘Miro’ range as shown below. Such a unique vast collection, totally inspiring.

I am also particularly drawn to the Miss Print wallpaper designs. Some have such a 1950’s feel to them and great colourways that they are just simply gorgeous. So many favourites that I will cut it down to just a few. My favourite design is ‘Little Trees’, this is such a lovely whimsical design with a real organic feel to it. Available in Five colourways.

Other favourites are the ‘Dandelion Mobile’ and the ‘Muscat Small’ design. With a gorgeous feel good factor and in many colours to choose from they are simply divine.

Bright, bold & beautiful, spring is really here 🙂

Ooooh I always love a great post about wallpaper and this one is fab Arianna! I'm a big fan of Mini Moderns, especially the Festival range. Their papers are so much fun and always put a smile on my face. And the Sanderson papers are gorgeous too.

I love seeing these 50's inspired designs reappearing. Let’s face it, the 50's was such an incredible time in modern history.

The creative genius of Japanese film director Akira Kurosawa brings us the now legendary "Seven Samurai". Versions of the plot are used so much now a days.

We are introduced to Rock 'n' Roll via the likes of Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly & Johnny Cash and with it comes guitar solos and that style of showmanship we take for granted now a days.

We are graced with beauties of the silver screen like Marilyn Monroe, Brigitte Bardot & Sophia Loren.

It is the start of the Pop Art movement. And the Cold War!

So is it any wonder that through all this we see such amazing wall paper being produced. I really like Sanderson’s Miro range.

I love Miss Print designs – Little Trees is just so rock ‘n’ roll cool! Dandelion & Muscat both are such brilliant designs – as cool now as they were then.

Yes, MissPrint work wonders by blending a number of historically accurate colours & patterns with modern palettes so that their designs are always fresh and up to date. I can't not also mention what a lovely, lovely company they are. Years ago when I was a buyer/stylist for an interiors shop, we stocked their lampshades and not only were theirs the best sellers – the colourways are divine, I would seek them out at trade shows to say 'hello' because they're the loveliest people – also a fantastic family business. I'm so thrilled they're doing so well.

This is a really informative post – nice selection of images, Ari!
